The Lead Medical Assistant-Unit Administrator will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to meet the medical needs of students, including disease prevention, health promotion, and the full spectrum of routine primary care.

The medical assistants perform a variety of administrative and clinical functions to expedite the flow of patients through the clinic. Administrative duties will include: assisting the clinicians or nurses to make outside appointments and referrals, retrieving lab results for clinicians or patients, answering phones, and retrieving outside x-ray and lab results.
The Lead Medical Assistant’s clinical responsibilities include preparing patients for their visit: obtaining vital signs, height and weight, obtaining urine tests if needed, measuring for and teaching crutch walking, and performing EKG’s . He/she will also be responsible for stocking rooms, autoclaving instruments and assisting with appointments when needed.

This position also has a key administrative role and this person will need to be skilled in triaging patient phone calls, and have facility utilizing the medical record to obtain information or communicate with providers regarding patient’s questions, following up to ensure patients got needed referrals, answering questions, and getting students concerns to the right people in a timely manner. There is a requirement for this position that the applicant be proficient and skilled with computers and electronic medical records with the expectation that they can work with the clinic manager and others to facilitate EHR knowledge building amongst the staff. He/she will also be trained to perform other administrative assistant duties such as being able to provide support during the summer to the administrative staff as requested by the business office manager.

Basic Requirements:
Certification/completion from an accredited medical assistant course. Experience working in an inpatient, outpatient or office setting. BLS certified.

Preferred Qualifications:
Must have computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) Also should have experience with electronic medical records (Medicat would be a plus).

Special Work Schedule Requirements:
The schedule is Monday through Friday with occasional weekend (Saturday or holiday shift). Hours may vary with shifts starting at 8 am or late shifts that end at 6:30 pm.
